The Angry Bird

We all went to Tanay, Rizal this afternoon to get away from the big, bad city. There's nothing like lush greenery and fresh air to get you into vacation mode. I can't wait to fly out to our province next week!

Anyway, while resting from our nature trail, my Mom spotted a hen with her chicks and shouted, "Look at those chicks, Kira!" Of course, I turned around and true enough, saw a mother hen with about 10 chicks.

I don't know about you, but there's something endearing and perennially cute about farm animals. Think about piglets,  horses, geese, white ducks, chickens and the usual Shetland Sheepdog. It sorta reminds me of my childhood summers with my Dad and cousins in the province where we'd breed pigs and different kinds of chickens --- I'd even collect then incubate the eggs and wait for them to hatch! And I always felt that the 20-22 days incubation period took forever!

So anyway, I was dying to cuddle a little chick so in one swoop I caught one and I was giddy with delight. The chick then called for its mom with such force, poor little guy, all I wanted was a photo op!

Up close, it looks like it was really scared and pissed! I returned it to its mother shortly after this photo:

So there, that's how my day went! I think I should grow up soon and stop these silly shenanigans, yes?

  2. no, you shouldn't grow up. :D

it's a blessing to reap the benefits of age (wisdom + responsibility, starting a family, etc) without having to sacrifice/lose the "kid" in you.

  3. hehe. cute. ive a story. we have a sari-sari store in our bahay kubo (literally a bahay kubo ah)... one day, i was resting there and manning our store since i was on leave from store, a chicken flew into the kubo and got inside one of the boxes containing our "tinda". siyempre, i panicked and ran. but later, after gathering my wits, i checked out the box in the kubo, and i saw an egg!!! my hubby said, "that chicken has been laying eggs since a couple of days ago, pang-anim na niyang itlog!" hehehe

and up to now, she still lays here eggs in our kubo (monthly yan) heheh.

one time, someone was mowing the grass sa harap namin (vacant pa kasi) and he yelled, "ay may manok!" i ran and told him to stop, because the chicken laid her eggs there (10 ang total, with 1 bugok)... so, dun sa pinagtaguan nya, mataas ang damo, the rest, kalbo. a few days after, i saw her walking with her chicks home. hahahaha
